Genesis GV60 SUV Review

Genesis GV60 SUV Review

Introduction

Ever heard of Genesis? No, not the rock band. We’re talking about the premium luxury division of car manufacturer Hyundai. Its latest G70, G80 and G90 saloons have gone down very well with the UK motoring press, and now there’s a new, battery-powered GV60 SUV to bolster the brand’s appeal on these shores.

Sitting below the GV70 and GV80 off-roaders, the all-electric GV60 is certainly not short of rivals, going head-to-head with the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Jaguar I-Pace and Volkswagen ID.4. But thanks to its cutting-edge looks, sharp dynamics, high-
quality cabin and impressive range on a single charge, it offers something unique in
its class. Read our full Genesis GV60 review below…

Genesis GV60 SUV Specifications

Available in Premium, Sport and Sport Plus trim lines, all Genesis GV60s are equipped with the same 77.4kW battery, which lies flat within the floor. On the Premium model, this battery powers a 226bhp electric motor connected to the rear wheels, and can achieve 321 miles (WLTP combined) on a single charge. The sprint from 0-62mph takes 7.8 seconds and the top speed is 115mph.

On the Sport model, a 99bhp electric motor drives the front wheels and a 215bhp electric motor turns the rear wheels for a combined 314bhp, meaning this SUV is all-wheel drive. The range, meanwhile, is 292 miles. 0-62mph is completed in 5.1 seconds, and flat out the GV60 Sport will hit 124mph.

Finally, the performance-oriented Sport Plus model features a 241bhp electric motor on both axles for a combined – and seriously impressive – output of 483bhp. Genesis says this model can achieve 289 miles on a single charge. In boost mode,
which unleashes an extra 27bhp from each electric motor for 10 seconds, the all-wheel drive GV60 Sport Plus will accelerate from 0-62mph in just 4.0 seconds and top out at 146mph.

As for recharging times, all GV60 EVs perform identically – hooked up to a rapid 350kW DC charge point, the battery charge will jump from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes. A 50kW DC quick-charge point, meanwhile, will achieve the same charge in 73 minutes. Using a standard 230V AC domestic plug will bring the battery charge back up from 10% to 100% in 7 hours 20 minutes. To find out more about home charging check out this blog here.

Genesis GV60 SUV Interior/appearance

Blessed with a chunky and futuristic design, the new Genesis GV60 features split LED headlamps and tail lights, a clamshell bonnet, a sporty rear spoiler, and comesin a range of great paint colours including Sao Paulo Lime. The RWD Premium model rolls on 19-inch alloy wheels as standard, while the AWD Sport gets 20-inch rims and the AWD Sport Plus model has 21-inch wheels.

Inside the five-seat cabin, there’s a 12.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment, which is linked to the standard reversing camera, plus another 12.3-inch screen for the instrument cluster. There’s also a capable surround sound system, a plethora of airbags and electronic driver assistance systems to keep you safe, and split-folding rear seats. Speaking of the chairs, the Premium and Sport model’s seats are finished in faux leather, while the range-topping Sport Plus spec boasts real Nappa leather seat upholstery and an additional faux leather covering for the dashboard.

Genesis GV60 SUV Highlights

Without a doubt, one of the GV60’s coolest features is its Crystal Sphere, located on the floating centre console. Part of the cabin’s mood lighting system when the GV60 is switched off, this glowing orb flips 180 degrees to become a controller for the single-speed transmission when the car is turned on.

There’s also a fingerprint recognition system to call up your preferred seat position, phone contacts, speaker volume and so on, as well as paddles on the steering wheel for changing the aggressiveness of the regenerative braking system, which captures energy during deceleration to recharge the battery.

All Genesis GV60 EVs are fitted with adaptive suspension as standard, prioritising a more comfortable or dynamic ride at the touch of a button. Comfort, Eco and Sport driving modes feature too, and GV60s in Sport Plus spec also have an electronically controlled limited-slip differential to ramp up the handling prowess further still. Genesis GV60 SUV Price Being a luxury SUV, the Genesis GV60 is not cheap – the base Premium model is £47,005 OTR while the Sport comes in at £53,605 and the Sport Plus is £65,405. Thanks to the magic of Mint EV, however, more affordable Genesis lease deals are just a click of the mouse away.

Conclusion

Rarely can a car claim to look like nothing else on the road, but the new Genesis GV60 surely delivers on that front. Eye-catching and fast-footed in any trim line, buyers of this battery-powered SUV will be treated to a properly luxurious cabin dripping with technology, plus a refined and sporty drive that will keep more established rivals awake at night.
