Fiat 500e

The Fiat 500 has been reincarnated as an electric car, but it retains its all-important retro-chic looks! It is still available in hard-top or cabriolet configurations, however, is larger and heavier than previous models. The new Fiat 500e is available with a 23.7kWh battery with a range of 115 miles or a 42kWh battery with a range of 199 miles. That’s higher than a Honda e or a Smart EQ, but it’s not quite as good as a Renault Zoe. You could use a three-pin socket to recharge your 500, but it will take all night. A better option is to choose the 7.4kW wall box, which charges the batteries in just over six hours. Using an 85kW public fast charger is the quickest way to charge the larger battery in the new Fiat 500e. Fast charging stations can charge from empty to 80% in 35 minutes and provide a helpful 30 miles of range in only five minutes.

Fiat would have been foolish to make too many changes to the 500’s design, so they’ve carefully kept exterior stylistic adjustments to a minimum with this model over the last few years. There’s only one three-door body style, though if you want an electric fabric-folding roof, you can buy it in soft-topped ‘500C’ form. The introduction of ‘Uconnect’ infotainment systems on all models is the most significant alteration to more recent versions of this vehicle. The screen is flanked by smart air vents, giving it a far more integrated feel than many more expensive cars. The stylish steering wheel with chrome-plated controls will also be enjoyed by drivers. On short to medium trips, the space in the back is just about enough for two adults, and it’ll probably be great for youngsters. The 185-litre boot remains unchanged, which isn’t a bad thing as it still outperforms many competitors. If you need room for extra, you can move the backbench forward, which frees up 550 litres of storage space.
